Care Guide

You’ve found that special piece, now you want to take care of it. Fortunately sterling silver is easy to care for and clean. I use high quality .925 silver for all of my pieces which is a sturdier silver and doesn’t need much cleaning.

Pure water doesn’t harm sterling silver, but water with chemicals or contaminants could, so I recommend removing your pieces when you get in the shower, pool, hot tub or hot springs.

Everyday lotions, hair products and perfumes can also tarnish silver, so apply your personal care products, let dry, then accessorize. Your jewelry will thank you by maintaining its luster much longer between cleanings.

You may also want to consider how you store your items when they are not being worn. Don't leave it lying on your nightstand or in an open jewelry tray. It's best to store silver in individual, air-tight bags with anti-tarnish properties. But here in the real world where I don’t always have such storage items, I make it a point to put my items in a closed jewelry box out of the sunlight, dust and open air.

As a recommended practice I don’t wear my silver when doing the following:

  • Household chores that involve cleaning supplies
  • Outside chores or tasks, such as gardening
  • When exercising or playing contact sports
  • When showering or bathing
  • Swimming, hot tubs, or saunas
  • When getting ready (i.e: putting on lotion, makeup, hair products)
  • Preparing, cooking, or eating foods that contain sulfur, like eggs and mayonnaise. I had no idea this was a thing until I started intentionally oxidizing metal - there are actually techniques that use eggs to patina pieces. You learn something new every day.

Preventative care is always easier than damage control but you only live once, and every day deserves to be adorned. So wear your pieces!

When it gets dirty or tarnished you can give it a quick polish. I include a complimentary small polish pad with each of my orders to help you keep your pieces bright and shiny.

You may also use a simple microfiber cloth or special jewelry cloth. I personally use Sunshine cloths, which you can get on Amazon (or in my shop soon.) Avoid paper towels which might leave scratches on your jewelry.

From time to time I like to give my pieces with stones a quick once over with a tooth brush and some mild soap.
